Obese nurses goes from wide bride to slender spouse after losing five stone in time for dream New York Wedding
An obese nurse has gone from wide bride to slender spouse after losing five stone just in time for her dream wedding.
Evelyn Wallin, 38, was so determined to slimdown for her big day that she cut out all takeaways and worked out for two hours each day for a year.
She had bulged to 16st 9 (106.1kg/233lb) from wine and meals out with future-husband John Thorsson, 37, after battling with her weight since childhood.
But after feeling self-conscious in clothing and never happy with photographs taken of herself, last year she decided tochange.
After getting engaged, the mum used her dream New York wedding as a motivation and deadline to lose weight by.
Now having lost an impressive five stone (32kg/70lb), the happy couple flew nearly 4,000 miles from their home in Stockholm, Sweden, to tie the knot in Hell’s Kitchen, New York.
Evelyn, a paediatric nurse, said: “I knew I had to change after becoming really self-conscious, when people took my photo I’d never be satisfied and if I saw myself in the mirror I’d feel sad.
“I met the man of my life and husband, then with the happy life came wine, alcohol, parties and in a short time I gained more weight.
“I was happy and wasn’t focusing as much on my physical appearance, that’s when I gained a lot of weight.
“I started my journey towards health before I got engaged, it was easy to see myself on my wedding day in New York not being satisfied with myself.
“I knew I wanted to undergo a body transformation and be able to stand in my wedding gown feeling pretty both inside and out.
“Thinking of my wedding has been the vision that has kept me on track and determined to keep losing weight.
“On my big day, it was so worth it, every two-hour workout each day and all the effort I put into my diet and transformation.
“I felt so beautiful, I didn’t need to think of angles or question how I looked, I felt it in my heart that I looked beautiful, I knew I looked the way I wanted.
“Every minute of my wedding day was just magical, one thing I know is that I feel very proud and capable, I can do whatever I put my mind to.”
Evelyn was overweight as a child, but believes depression and anxiety led her to gain more weight in adulthood.
She added: “I had always been heavier more or less, after battling depression and anxiety my mental health became more of a focus than my physical weight.
“I wasn’t in a job where I was happy and so used to comfort eat to combat that.”
After meeting John three-years-ago, Evelyn continued to gain weight through ‘being happy’ where she would eat out more and wasn’t exercising.
But last year she became determined to lose weight in time for her wedding and set herself a tough exercise regime and diet.
Evelyn said: “Number one was cutting down my portion sizes, then adding in large portions of vegetables and eating very clean.
“After that, I cut out all fast food, I started going to the gym, where I began lifting weights.
“From there I had enough fitness to start a lot of low-intense cardio, power walking and intervals outdoors for two hours a day.”
Within a year, Evelyn had dropped down to a svelte 11st 9 (74kg/163lb).
She believes the change was not only physical but mentally too and says she has a much better mentality than before.
Evelyn said: “It’s hard to believe it’s me when I look in the mirror now, I feel very beautiful especially since being able to buy smaller jeans and dresses.
“Everything is much easier, my BMI is normal, I can run too which is something I couldn’t do before, there’s a huge difference in what I can do.
“I’m not held back any more by my weight, no one else is in control of my life other than me.”
Evelyn’s hard-work was rewarded when walking down the aisle on June 10th, exactly four years from the day the couple met.
Newly-wed Mrs Wallin-Thorsson now has the wedding pictures of her dreams by photographer Hèlena Parmèr and can’t wait to show them off to others.
Evelyn said: “I look completely different, I look like I’m half the size that I used to be.
“My family and friends who have seen my transformation are very supportive and often say ‘Wow’ because they are so shocked.
“Also, my husband is very proud of me, he’s quite amazed at how well I’ve done and often jokes to others ‘Keep your hands off’.”
Evelyn maintains others can lose weight easily too but they must be strict on themselves.
She added: “Don’t wait for motivation to come, just do it! Stick to your plan and motivation will eventually come when you start seeing results.
“The other thing you cannot do is cheat on your diet, if you leave your plan once you will do it again.”
