S.W.A.T. team in superhero costumes rappels down children’s hospital to delight stunned patients
This is the heartwarming moment patients at a children’s hospital couldn’t believe their eyes when a gang of SUPERHEROES suddenly appeared at their windows – many floors up.
Stunned children rushed to peer out as the likes of Superman, Batman, Captain America and Spider-Man began to rappel down the sides of the building.
The heroes of the day, however, were actually members of a local S.W.A.T. team, who were more than happy to surprise the youngsters at Children’s Hospital Colorado, USA.
Members of the Aurora Police Department S.W.A.T. team undertook the selfless act last month as part of a tradition at the hospital that started in 2013.
The first year, window washers for the hospital decided to don superherocostumes as a surprise for the children, and when they were unavailable the following year, local police officers stepped in.
Though there were some logistical challenges during the first year of SuperheroDay – such as finding the right equipment, costumes, anchor points, and checking the weather – staff said the long day was certainly worth it for the look on children’s’ faces.
Jim Feist, manager of environment of care, compliance and sustainability at the hospital, said: “It’s great to be part of an event that takes you back to when you were a child and dreamed about being your favourite superhero.
“Knowing that with everything else going on in our patients’ and their families’ lives, for an hour, we can remind them they’re just kids.
“And kids dream about being a superhero.
“That’s the best feeling of all.”
